How Frequent a Radiator Should Be Flushed

Simple vehicle maintenance procedure like radiator flush could add several years to vehicle’s lifespan enabling you to enjoy its maximum use. For your vehicle to be efficient, it must be at the right temperature brought about by the presence of a radiator. A radiator is a heat exchanger made of two tanks that are linked by a core consisting of several tubes. When a vehicle is switched, the coolant moves from one tank to another due to rise in its temperature allowing cooler air that takes the heat out of the coolant to be dragged in through the tubes when the vehicle moves.

To avoid overheating of the engine that might result in breakdown or worse, it is recommended that radiator flushing be done. A pure mixture of distilled water and antifreeze in the engine cools the engine and if compromised by dirt, it might not function efficiently. To avoid corrosion of some engine parts the coolant should be regularly changed. Allow your vehicle’s engine to cool before you start flushing the radiator.

A flushing agent is used to clean the radiator after draining the dirty coolant before refilling it with a clean one. Corrosion and blockage of the engine might be caused by the presence of dirt particles which are easily removed by a flushing agent. Raise the front of the car with a to carjack ten drain fluid by unscrewing the radiator plug into a bowl placed under the car.

After putting the plug back, fill the engine with distilled water and flushing agent and the engine on and carefully follow instructions obtained with the flushing agent. Free the radiator of the cleaning mixture by draining it once again along with the cylinder valves. If your fresh antifreeze need dilution, use distilled water while following manufacturer’s instruction before filling it in the clean engine. Avoid damage to the engine through localized overheating caused by excess air in the engine system by completely bleeding the system before refilling it with fresh anti-freeze.

Turn the engine on for a short time and then off again after checking the vehicle’s temperature to rid of trapped excess air. A vehicle type dictates how a frequent radiator flush should be done and sometimes the weather one tends to drive in. A once in every five years flushing is a healthy habit for your vehicle but it should not be limited to that because sometime early flushing might be needed like due to the presence of rust around the engine area. Therefore, the standard time a radiator should be flushed is once every few years but it is majorly the info. here. Find time to read more here about how you can maintain your car.
